About the Workshop:
This workshop is for serious amateur and professional photographers or videographers interested in producing a photo essay with impact. Through formal lectures, critiques and on location demonstrations, participants will learn how to photograph in a variety of challenging lighting situations while developing their style. Lectures and demonstrations include working in low light conditions and at night, using strobe to create a ‘natural look’, learning how to document a foreign culture and how to expand their storytelling abilities.
Participants can work together in groups or individually pursue their projects. Lahore in Pakistan is the perfect photographic location, and offers a diverse range of photographic subjects. Possible documentary subjects include Lahore’s colorful street life, colonial architecture, vibrant music and nightclub scene, arts community and its passionate people.
Requirements:
• A serious interest in photography.
• A digital camera with a means to store and share your pictures – a small laptop ideally and perhaps an external drive for backup.
• Basic camera proficiency.
• A willingness to take pictures every day for the duration of the trip (so no whining about being tired or not inspired).
• Being ready to be challenged and step out of your comfort zone – talking to strangers and visiting unusual places.
• A sense of humour (needed when the weather is poor, the bus is broken or everybody is tired or hungover).
